...but you can call me Ra!

My name Ramani is of Sri Lankan origin where my parents were born and raised. I was born in Germany and raised in Canada from the age of four. I grew up on the East Coast of Canada enjoying four beautifully distinct seasons until my late twenties.

I earned my Undergraduate Degree from the University of Waterloo where I met my husband. Thereafter, I studied abroad in Australia at Griffith University to become an elementary school teacher. After completing my education, my husband and I settled down in San Francisco. During this time we were invited to a friend’s wedding in La Jolla. When we got to the venue that overlooked the ocean I knew where I had to be for the rest of my life. Seven years and four children later we are now settled in La Jolla.

The first time I threw on the wheel was in my grade 10 ceramics art class. I had a wonderful teacher named Ms.Stadnyk who saw something special in me. I loved being around her and in the pottery studio all the time. She provided a safe place for me to explore my ideas and create to my heart's desire. The following year I was her Teacher’s Assistant and for the rest of my time in highschool I literally lived in the pottery studio. Fast forward 22 years, I now have my own ceramic studio and I have learnt from Master Potters around the country. I am currently learning from Izzy Elizondo at Falling Sky Pottery in Ocean Beach.
